Games For Love Extends Lifeline to a Three-Year-Old Boy Surrounded in Silence
Clayshawn, a three-year-old boy from Baguio City, faced a challenging journey when a newborn hearing test revealed profound hearing loss in both ears. That’s when Games For Love stepped in.
Clayshawn’s parents sought the best possible solution to give their son the opportunity to learn to talk at a young age.
After a month-long trial with hearing aids proved unsuccessful, the family explored the option of a cochlear implant. With only two suppliers of cochlear implants in the country, MED-EL Philippines Inc. and Cochlear through Gruppo Technico Medico Internationale Inc., the family faced financial constraints, as MED-EL operates on a cash-only basis.
The family did everything they could to cover the costs of Clayshawn’s medical needs, but they came up short.
Despite sincere efforts and fundraisers, Clayshawn’s parents found themselves short of 50,000 Philippine pesos (about $895) as the date for the crucial operation approached.
But help was on the way.
Games For Love stepped in on December 13, 2023, providing the much-needed financial support to cover the remaining balance for the cochlear implant device. Games For Love’s Founder and CEO says the team couldn’t be more excited for Clayshawn:
“Games For Love was more than willing to use our resources to help give the gift of hearing to Clayshawn. We hope that music, laughter and language will be in his life going forward.”
As our community eagerly awaits updates on Clayshawn’s operation and recovery, Games For Love’s intervention stands as a beacon of hope for the young boy surrounded by silence.
