Games For Love Funds Echocardiogram
Seigfred, a 14-year-old boy from Batangas, has been fighting a challenging medical condition for over a year.
Diagnosed with rheumatic fever with carditis, his journey has been one of strength and perseverance. Prior to his diagnosis, Seigfred frequently suffered from allergic rhinitis, fevers, sore throats, and joint pains, which were early signs of his condition. He is currently receiving penicillin injections every 21 days, a treatment he must continue for the next 5 to 10 years.
On February 27, 2024, Seigfred’s physician recommended a 2D echocardiogram (2D echo) to monitor his heart condition. However, the procedure has been delayed due to financial challenges. His family has been struggling with the costs, as they are already burdened by his mother’s own health battle. Six years ago, his mother was diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease and is currently preparing for surgery while also undergoing treatment.
Seigfred’s mother is deeply concerned about her son’s health, saying, “I will do everything to ensure my son does not go through the same condition as me because there’s a possibility that he might.”
The family’s financial situation is further strained by the loss of Seigfred’s biological father. His stepfather, who works as a farmer and fisherman, provides for the family, but his income is insufficient to cover their growing medical expenses. Though relatives and friends occasionally offer help, it is inconsistent. Seigfred’s mother is a charity patient at the Heart Center, receiving assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for her medications, but the family relies heavily on charity and government aid to meet both their medical needs.
Despite his illness, Seigfred remains an academic achiever and strives to avoid missing school. His determination to succeed in his studies drives him to push through his health challenges.
During his school break on June 14, 2024, thanks to the generosity of Games For Love, Seigfred was finally able to undergo the much-needed 2D echo test.
The family continues to face overwhelming medical expenses and seeks support from kind-hearted individuals and organizations to help them on their journey toward better health. Every contribution makes a difference in ensuring Seigfred receives the care he needs.
