No kid should have to fight the kind of battle Emmanuel’s been fighting.

He was diagnosed last year with Stage IV osteosarcoma. Bone cancer, and an aggressive one. It started as a lump on his shoulder that wouldn’t go away, and eventually the doctors had no choice but to amputate his right arm.

Those months were brutal, honestly. Emmanuel spent a lot of that time bedridden, and every trip to chemo or a checkup meant figuring out transportation on top of everything else. Money was already tight for his family, and it only got tighter as the bills for getting him to treatment kept stacking up.

He didn’t stop pushing, though.

Physical therapy started right after the amputation. At first, he needed someone holding him up just to stand. Weeks later, he took a few steps on his own for the first time. Now he walks without any help at all.

He’s also teaching himself to write with his left hand. He wants to stay in school, and this year he’s a Grade 8 student at Bakakeng National High School.

It’s not all behind him. He still gets phantom limb sensations sometimes, that strange feeling where his right hand seems to still be there. And in July 2026, a follow-up CT scan turned up a few small new nodules in his lungs. For now, his doctors don’t think he needs another round of chemo, but he’s staying on medication and going in for scans and monitoring every month.
