Today, we want to share a heartwarming story of resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of our collective efforts.
Meet Louise, a one-year-old baby girl from Cebu, Philippines. She comes from a humble background, where her mother cares for her while her father works as staff in a local office, earning a modest income of P16,000 a month (about $280). Their family lives with Louise’s grandparents, nurturing a close-knit bond that would soon become their most significant source of strength.
Louise’s journey took an unexpected turn just a month after her birth when she was brought in for a regular check-up. It was during this visit that the doctor detected a heart murmur, sending shockwaves through her family’s world. Further examinations revealed that Louise was facing a formidable adversary – Congenital Heart Disease (CHD), specifically a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) perimembranous, in heart failure class II.
The battle began, and Louise’s tiny heart showed incredible resilience. She spent nearly two months in the hospital, grappling with pneumonia and congested lungs. Upon returning home, Louise’s oxygen levels were alarmingly low, requiring continuous oxygen support. However, with the proper medications and maintenance, her oxygen levels gradually normalized, offering a glimmer of hope to her family.
The turning point in Louise’s journey arrived when she underwent a life-saving heart surgery. For nine days, she remained under the watchful care of dedicated medical professionals. Louise finally returned home to Cebu with her heart mended and a world of possibilities awaiting her.
The path forward remained challenging for Louise’s family. Providing for her daily medications, vitamins, laboratory workups, and essential medical needs weighed heavily on their finances, causing immense stress and uncertainty.
